Losing someone you love is overwhelming. Choosing a headstone shouldn’t be.

At Two Rivers Monuments, we walk with you through the process—one step at a time—so you can create a one-of-a-kind monument that honors your loved one and tells their story for generations to come.

Whether you’re looking for something simple or elaborate,

we help you understand what’s possible, and what’s meaningful.

Your Loved One’s Life Deserves More
Than a Date on a Stone

It deserves a story.
A moment.
A memory that lasts.

That’s why every monument we create is made in-house, etched by hand, with heart.

More Than a Monument:
A Memory

Julia is one of only 40 hand etchers in the U.S. Her artistry has been featured on Twin Cities Live, Boyd Huppert’s Land of 10,000 Stories and On the Road with Jason Davis. She also teaches hand etching and hosts groups of women who come to learn, heal, and create together.

This is more than a business.
It’s a family tradition of saving stories in stone.

Julia Gustafson, owner and artist

After a loss, it can be hard to know where to start. Many families come to us unsure of what’s possible or even what they want.

Grief makes decisions feel heavy, and the options can be overwhelming.

That’s why we guide you from start to finish—with compassion, clarity, and care.

We take time to listen to your stories, understand your loved one,

and gently walk you through every step—from design sketches to the final etching.

We do not hand your work off to a factory, we create and touch every stone and make all designs ourselves.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. We’re here to help you create something meaningful, at your pace.

Our process is simple!

Make an appointment

Come into our Elk River design shop and tell us all about your loved one.

See the design come to life

Julia will sketch your monument. You’ll receive a drawing to review and edit until it’s just right.

We take care of the rest

Your custom design is sandblasted and etched by hand. If you’d like to join in the etching, we’ll invite you in. When it’s ready, we place the stone at the gravesite for you.

Our process takes a minimum of 12 weeks to complete

We are big enough to take care of you...yet small enough to care.

Flat

Flat monuments normally set flush with the ground in a concrete border, but can be set raised or at an angle depending on cemetery requirements.

Slant

Slant monuments give great visibility from a distance and like the upright monuments they also add the ability for back lettering.

Upright

Upright monuments give the best visibility from a distance, and afford the best protection due to being set on a base.

Bevel

Bevel monuments are slightly raised in the back, going from 4 inches in the front to 6 inches in the back and are sometimes called “pillow” monuments.

Custom Shapes

Julia will sketch your monument. You’ll receive a drawing to review and edit until it’s just right.

Pet Markers

Your custom design is sandblasted and etched by hand. If you’d like to join in the etching, we’ll invite you in. When it’s ready, we place the stone at the gravesite for you.

Be Part of the Story: Etch It with Us

You don’t have to be an artist—just someone who loved them.

At Two Rivers Monuments, we offer a one-of-a-kind experience: the chance to help hand etch your loved one’s monument. Once the design is finalized and the stone is ready, Julia will invite you into the studio to join her in adding those final, personal touches. She’ll guide you step by step, so you can help carve a piece of their story into stone with your own hands. Many families find deep comfort and healing in being part of the process.
Prefer to leave it in our hands? No problem—we take care of everything for you, all the way to setting the stone at the cemetery.

My journey with Julia and Two Rivers Monument started 8 years ago when we met with Julia to create my brother’s stone. Julia took the time to listen and understand what we wanted and helped us put our ideas and wishes into a beautiful stone. She kept us updated during the process and made sure it was what we wanted. She made a very painful process bearable. Just recently we had Julia design my father and mother in laws headstone. She asked all the right questions to help us create the perfect stone. She has such a kind heart and truly cares about each person she works with. Nobody wants to have to go thru loss and funerals and designing stones, but Julia makes the process less painful and stressful. I can’t speak highly enough of the work Two Rivers Monuments does and of the caring staff Julia has!

Julia was wonderful to work with and did an incredible job creating my mother's grave marker. She took time with us to work out the design, asking meaningful questions during a difficult time with complicated family dynamics. She is like your favorite therapist, walking you through what can be painful decisions. I will be eternally grateful for her care, concern, and beautiful work!

My mother and I started our journey with Julia to create my folks headstone. Two River Monument aka Julia was wonderful to work with. She met with us multiple times to understand who my family was to start creating the scene. When the monument was placed at the cemetery, the beauty and sentimental emotion it brought tears to my eyes Thank you Julia!
